This piece confronts the legacy of industrial logging in Haida Gwaii, where clearcutting has stripped away ancient ecosystems and cultural memory. Inspired by Emily Carr’s Scorned as Timber, Beloved of Sky, this piece centers a single wounded tree, a last haven for displaced wildlife. Above, a forestry helicopter airlifts a scroll marked with symbolic wealth — its roots dangling — as if value can be extracted without consequence.
